| Bio: | Name: Neville Longbottom Date of Birth: July 30th 1980 Age and Date of Death: 66, on August 7th, 2046 Manner of Death: Eaten by a flesh-eating tree while exploring a forest in Germany, looking for new species of magical plants Brief Life History: Neville Longbottom is the son of Frank and Alice Longbottom, Aurors active against the fight against Voldemort in the first war. Tragically, they were captured by Death Eaters shortly after Voldemort’s downfall and were tortured to the point of insanity by way of the Cruciatus Curse. Neville was only over a year old at the time, and subsequently never known his parents, other than the shells of their former selves, residing permanently in St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. Neville was raised by his grandmother, Augusta and when he comes to Hogwarts, he does not even tell his closest friends about his parents’ condition. At Hogwarts, Neville is at first shy and awkward, and has a hard time fitting in. He is often losing his toad, Trevor and forgetting things. He does not make friends right away, as some of the other students are annoyed by his clumsiness and difficulty learning magic. Neville begins to prove his courage though, able to stand up to Draco Malfoy’s bullying and tries single-handedly to stand up to Harry, Ron and Hermione to prevent them from sneaking out of Gryffindor tower late at night, when they are attempting to retrieve the Sorcerer’s Stone in first year. Over the years at Hogwarts, Neville becomes good friends with Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny and Luna. In his fifth year, Harry, Hermione, Ron and Ginny accidentally run into him and his grandmother visiting his parents in St. Mungo’s and Neville’s secret is revealed. Also, in that same year Bellatrix Lestrange escapes from Azkaban, which angers Neville immensely. So when Harry gathers a group of students to learn Defense Against the Dark Arts behind Professor Umbridge’s back, Neville gladly joins and works very hard to learn all the spells Harry teaches them. At the end of the school year, Neville joins Hermione, Ginny, Ron and Luna accompanying Harry into the Department of Mysteries, where he fights bravely at Harry’s side. At the end of his sixth year at Hogwarts as well, Neville demonstrates his courage and loyalty once again, when he answers the call of Dumbledore’s Army and battles against the Death Eaters that Draco Malfoy led into Hogwarts. But it is in his seventh year that Neville gets to truly demonstrate the depth of his character and the strength of his convictions. With Voldemort controlling the Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts became a very different place. Severus Snape became Headmaster and two other Death Eaters, the Carrows, are appointed as teachers who take it upon themselves to inflict violence upon students who disobey. Throughout the year, Neville continues to demonstrate acts of bravery as he continues fighting in the spirit of Dumbledore’s Army. He stands up to the Carrows, refuses to use the Cruciatus Curse against other students who are in detention, and at night, marks the walls with graffiti that says phrases such as, “Dumbledore’s Army: Still recruiting!” Eventually, it became so dangerous for members of the DA, that they had to go into hiding, and Neville created a safe house for them in the Room of Requirement. When Harry returned to Hogwarts in search of the Ravenclaw Horcrux, Neville insisted on helping him fight in any way he could. He then gathered support, from the DA, the Order of the Phoenix, Hogwarts alumni and others. Neville fought bravely in the battle, and he alone notices Harry when he is leaving to go sacrifice himself. Harry instructs Neville to kill Nagini if at all possible and Neville agrees without question. When Voldemort returns from the Forbidden Forest with Harry’s “body”, he lies to the crowd of onlookers and tells them that he killed Harry who was attempting to flee and save his own life. Angered by this, Neville charges forward and attempts to attack Voldemort. Voldemort stops him, but praises his bravery, and upon realizing his identity, offers to let him join his ranks as a Death Eater, to which Neville tells him, “I’ll join you when hell freezes over. Dumbledore’s Army!” His response angers Voldemort, who then summons the Sorting Hat, puts a body-binding spell on Neville, then puts the hat on his head and lights it aflame. When Voldemort is momentarily distracted though, at the arrival of the giants, Neville breaks free of the spell, and when the Sorting Hat falls off, he pulls out of it the sword of Godric Gryffindor, and cuts of Nagini’s head in a single stroke, destroying the final Horcrux and rendering Voldemort mortal. Neville survives the final battle and after completing his education at Hogwarts, continues his studies in herbology for a few years, before finally becoming the herbology professor at Hogwarts. Neville became very popular with his students, and often recounted tales of Dumbledore’s Army and the fight against Voldemort to them. He married Hannah Abbott, a fellow Hogwarts student, and spent his summers, when he wasn’t teaching, exploring other countries in search of new and exotic magical plants. Appearance: Brown-hair, short, slightly overweight with a round face. Not conventionally attractive, but has a warm, friendly appearance about him. Personality: Upon first meeting him, Neville may seem dull-witted and unremarkable. Neville has never been the most talented in spell-work, and can have difficulty learning, especially when intimidated by the teacher or subject. He is famous for forgetting things, like the password to Gryffindor tower when he was in school. But despite his outer slowness, Neville has considerable inner strength, and aptly represents the Gryffindor house. Neville is extremely courageous and will never hesitate to stand up for his friends or for what is right. He has an aptitude for herbology, and was a herbology professor at Hogwarts in life. Likes: His family, friends, herbology, Hogwarts Dislikes: Lord Voldemort and all that he stands for. Bullies and bullying. Bellatrix Lestrange, for the harm she caused him and his family. Sexuality: Heterosexual. Married to Hannah Abbott in life. (And secretly in love with Luna Lovegood.) Setting: The Country Occupation: Herbologist. Grows magical plants, and will teach anyone who wishes to learn about them. Brief description of the character’s home: Small and comfortable, but on a large property with an immense garden of many varieties of magical plants.
